Checking Exchange File Extensions

We have seen issues when launching Exchange and it opens in either as a Microsoft Word document or as an Adobe Reader document.  When it opens it will show an error message saying that the file may be corrupt or it will display the document as symbols that are unreadable.  This may happen to any file opening in the incorrect program that was originally intended.

To resolve:

Windows 2000 platform

Double click My Computer and click Tools in the menu toolbar.

Click Folder Options... in the Tools menu.

In the Folder Options dialogue box click the File Types tab.

Scroll through the Extensions column until you find the ICA Extension.

They are in alphabetical order so if you do not have that file extension you will need to install Exchange from the website.

Click the ICA File Type to highlight it and click on the Restore button.

Instead of ICA File, you should now see Citrix ICA Connection in the File Types column.

If you do not see a Restore button click the Change... button.

Then scroll through the list of programs until you find Citrix ICA Client Engine.

Click on the Citrix ICA Client Engine to highlight it

Click OK to close it.

Click the Close on the Folder Options dialogue box to close it.

Close My Computer and re-launch Exchange.

Note: This will work for any file that you know is opening in the wrong application.

Windows 98 Second Edition platform

Double click on My Computer and click on View in the Menu Toolbar.

Click Folder Options... in the View menu.

In the Folder Options dialogue box click the File Types tab.

Scroll through the Registered file types until you find Citrix ICA Connection.

They are in alphabetical order so if you do not have that Registered file type you will need to install Exchange from the website.

Click on Citrix ICA Connection to highlight it and click on the Edit... Button.

In the Edit File Type dialogue box click open in the Actions: field to highlight it.

Click on the Set Default button and click the Close button to close it.

Click the OK button on the Folder Options dialogue box to close it.

Close the My Computer window and re-launch Exchange.

Note: This will work for any file that you know is opening in the wrong application.
